Design of National IPv6 Infrastructure and Transition to IPv6 Protocol
The project is funded by TUBITAK (The Scientific & Technological Research Council of Turkey ) and project is carried out under the coordination of ULAKBİM with the participation of Gazi University, Canakkale 18 Mart University and BTK (Turkish Information Technologies and Communications Authority) in the scope of customer-driven program 1007. There are more than 30 researchers working for the project.
Objectives of the project
This project aims to draw a roadmap for the IPv6 transition process. Within the scope of this project alternative methods for IPV6 transition will be accessed; a decision support system will be designed by utilizing management science and operations research techniques to decide the most suitable transition mechanism for different organization types; transition steps will be planned and a timetable will be created; solutions will be proposed for transition problems; security problems that may arise during or after the transition will be studied; a financial analysis will be conducted; a testbed / technology research and development platform will be created to analyze the applicability of advanced services like IPv6 roaming and multicast in order to fill the gap in technological know-how on the national level; trainings, workshops and conferences will be organized.
DEVELOPMENT OF INFORMATION GATHERING AND MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Information Gathering and Management Sytem” will be developed to be used by The Telecommunications Authority for IPv6 transition to take place with the effective and efficient utilization of national resources. This system will be used in the assessment of the cost of IPv6 transition on a national scale and and supply The Telecommunications Authority with the necessary information needed for the decision making making process.
TEST BED ENVIRONMENT AND DEVELOPMENT IPv6 (IPv6-GO) to CREATE
“Turkish IPv6 Testbed and Technology Research - Development Platform (IPv6-GO)” will be created to pioneer and facilitate research on the field of IPv6. The existence of such a research platform will increase the competitive capacity of academics and industry in Turkey.
IPv6 ENABLED VIDEO-CONFERENCE SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT
By developing a “Videoconferencing over IPv6 Software” within the technology development activities of the project, know-how on advanced IPv6 services is expected to be gained.
One of the most important research and development component of this project is the “IPv6 Security Research and Honeypot Development”. At this stage of the project, an “IPv6 Honetpot” will be developed which will be the first in the world. The honeypot software will be used for the establishment of a “honeypot network” within IPv6-GO to be used in the detection of IPv6 attacks.
